Jack Lowe-2_blog

I visited photographer Jack Lowe on location at the RNLI Chiswick Pier station last week. Jack has set himself the rather daunting task of visiting and  photographing every RNLI station in Great Britain. working with his beautiful 10″ x 12″ plate camera.  capturing each image on individual  glass plates, prepared in his mobile darkroom a decommissioned ambulance called Neena.

Jack is a extremely gift photographer and has chosen to work using this traditional Victorian process for this project. unlike a traditional film process which would typically produce a negative the glass plates are processed as a positive.

In the image above Jack and Chiswick Pier RNLI crew member watch the magic as the the image appears.
